Overview

The Roxbury Swim & Tennis Club membership is open to all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, physical or mental limitation or disabled status. There shall be no policy of giving member preference to anyone for any reason. 

The club is a corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the State of Connecticut.  Its’ purpose is to promote athletic and social activities among its members. The Club Bylaws define each type of membership and limit the number of units within each category.

All membership units (except “Seasonal Paddle Tennis”) run from May 1st through April 30th and are required to pay a one-time capital assessment fee when joining ($3,000 for a family membership; $1,500 for all other membership units), pay annual dues, and purchase a $2,000 non-transferable bond (subject to 10% Connecticut dues tax) in the second year of membership. The face value of the bond is refundable after resignation and a new member purchases their bond.

Applying for Membership

An application for membership in the Club must be sent to the Membership Chairperson, along with a $50 application fee. All applicants must obtain a written recommendations from two current membership units.  If you don’t know any current members, membership may be obtained through a meeting with the General Manager or a representative from the Board of Governors. Membership Categories and Costs

Family | Couple | Senior Couple | Single | Senior Single | Seasonal Paddle Tennis

Membership is limited by category, and applicants are placed on a waiting list, pending resignation of an active member. 

  • Family unit is defined as one (1) or two (2) married or cohabiting adults, both over the age of twenty (20) living in the same household, and all unmarried children under the age of twenty-five (25) living in the same household. A Family unit may not consist of two (2) unrelated single adults living together primarily for financial reasons (i.e., roommates). There is currently a waitlist for the 2025 Club year which starts on May 1, 2025.
  • Couple unit is defined as either two (2) married or two (2) cohabiting adults, both over the age of twenty (20), with no children over the age of four (4) and under the age of twenty-one (21) living in the same household, or a single adult over the age of twenty (20) with only one (1) child of any age living in the same household.  A Couple unit may not consist of two (2) unrelated single adults living together primarily for financial reasons (i.e., roommates). The Board of Governors may allow two active members of a Family unit who have been part of the same bond holding membership a minimum of five (5) years to qualify as a Couple unit. The Couple unit dues is eighty percent (80%) of the Family unit dues. 
  • Single unit is defined as one (1) unmarried, divorced or widowed adult over the age of twenty (20), with no children under the age of twenty-one (21) living in the same household.  The Board of Governors may allow an active Family or Couple unit adult who has been part of a bond holding membership a minimum of five (5) years to qualify as a Single unit. The Single unit dues is sixty percent (60%) of the Family unit dues.
  • Senior Couple unit is defined as two (2) married or cohabiting adults living in the same household where at least 1 (one) is a minimum of sixty-five (65) years of age, and there are no children under the age of twenty-one (21) living in the same household. A Senior Couple unit may not consist of two unrelated single adults living together primarily for financial reasons (i.e., roommates).  The Senior Couple unit dues is sixty percent (60%) of the Family unit dues.
  • Senior Single unit is defined as one (1) unmarried, divorced or widowed adult who is a minimum of sixty-five (65) years of age, with no children under the age of twenty-one (21) living in the same household. The Senior Single unit dues is forty percent (40%) of the Family unit dues.
  • Seasonal Paddle Tennis unit is defined as either one adult ages 21 years or older, or a family (up to 2 adults and all children under the age of 26 living in the same household).  Seasonal paddle tennis members are only allowed to use the paddle tennis courts and tennis pavilion between October 1st and mid-April.  Cost:  $550 for a senior single or a junior single; $660 for a single; $650 for a senior couple; $880 for a couple, and $1,100 for a family. All prices include CT membership dues tax. No application fee, initiation fee, or bond is required.
